WRFL, in partnership with UK’s Violence Intervention and Prevention (VIP) Center, is excited to announce Queerslang 2016, a music and learning festival put on in celebration of Lexington’s lesbian, gay, bi, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and ally community! This year’s festival will span two days, starting the evening of Friday, Sept. 16th continuing on into the night of Saturday, Sept. 17th.

The festival will begin on Friday, September 16th with a slam poetry performance by black/trans/queer author J Mase III. Following the performance will be a movie screening at the Lyric Theater & Cultural Arts Center at 7PM.

The following day, Saturday, September 17th will begin with free community workshops hosted at 21c Museum Hotel Lexington. These free workshops will run from noon-3pm with the first round starting at noon and the second at 1:30pm. Topics range from identity/self-care, to ally training, and activism through spoken word led by J Mase III. All ages are welcome.

The festival will end with a concert on Saturday night at 8pm at the Al’s Bar of Lexington complex. Headlining the show is Perfume Genius and hip-pop artist Dai Burger. Also performing is female-fronted group BOYTOY and Lexington local Jeanne Vomit-Terror. Doors to the 18+ show open at 7PM.
