Illustrated by Kay Kelley for feministcards.com

Joanna Newsom is an American pianist, harpist and singer-songwriter. Growing up in Nevada City, California, Newsom was exposed to music at a young age, as her father was a guitarist and her mother was a pianist that also played the hammered dulcimer, the autoharp and conga drums. At age four she began playing piano and eventually learned harp, her first choice instrument. Her albums The Milk-Eyed Mender and Ys have received much praise and accolades. Her most recent album Have One On Me has shown a new, “mature” side of Newsom’s voice and her lyrics have been noted for its poetic elements and feminist implications.
